I started a blog because I wanted a record of a Big Experience. When we went to Taiwan to see my daughter play in the Deaflympics (and win a gold medal), I knew I would forget much of the detail unless I wrote it down immediately.

Closing Ceremonies

Fireworks. Food. Puppets. Dancers. Thanks to the 10,000 volunteeers who made the games run smoothly. Speakers who droned on so long that the athletes took things into their own hands and started do improvised dances along the track. (more…)

What I remember About the Game

They did it!!!!!

This evening, the Women's Soccer Team beat Germany 4-0 at Deaflympics. The first half ended without a score on either side. In the second half, the German women played hard and the American women played harder. (more…)

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in Taipei for over a week. We’ve done so much, though I do regret not getting into the countryside more. If we had unlimited time, I would definitely visit a hot springs and maybe a tea plantation. The national parks also sound quite wonderful, (more…)

Eating our way through Taipei

Even after a week, I really can’t get my bearings in Taipei. Some of the street names have started to look familiar but I don’t know which ones run north and south or east and west. For that matter, I can’t reliably tell which direction I’m headed when I’m out. Fortunately, taxis are inexpensive and very accommodating. (more…)
