Went to Tai Chi Class this morning. It was the first day of the new session, so there was a lot of introductory talk. In any other class, it would be annoying, but Tai Chi is a discipline and it is actually helpful to be in touch with beginner's mind.

We did Tai Chi walking, a practice that involves emptying one foot so that you are rooted on the other and then moving the empty foot forward and rooting it so the other foot can move and so on. (more…)

Today is the sort of day that makes me wonder why anyone wants to live anywhere except Northwest Ohio. The sky looks like the opening credits to the Simpsons; the breeze is just cool enough to make every outdoor activity (even weeding) feel joyous.

The other side of the world

There's a twelve hour time difference between Toledo and Taiwan which means that it is, quite literally, on the other side of the world. I spend my days trying to imagine what Jessie is doing but, of course, while I'm doing the imagining, she is sleeping. Apparently, she slept for 11 hours the first night. (more…)

She's off!

Left the house at 4:30AM to catch the first plane in Detroit. The highway passes the exit for Ida. Jessie and I spent so many years commuting there so she could attend the Monroe County Program for the Hearing Impaired. It's a reminder of how many people have helped her get to this moment. (more…)

When I tried blogging earlier this year, I gave it up. It made no sense to me to keep a journal in public. That probably firmly brands me as a person of a certain age but never mind.

Now I have a topic that seems blog worthy. Jessie is going to Deaflympics. She leaves tomorrow morning. And we join her next week. At least a few people want to follow her experiences, and I want a record of everything that happens. So here goes... (more…)
